1.10 -- What happens if I do nothing?
No one is forcing you to use AI. But here's what it concretely means to change nothing.
Your situation today
You are an entrepreneur, craftsperson, or you manage a small business. Your day:
- 8-10h on your core business (projects, clients, production)
- 2-3h in the evening on admin (emails, quotes, follow-ups, accounting)
- Prospects waiting 24-48h before getting a response
- Unpaid invoices that you follow up on "when you think about it"
- No clear vision of your week without opening 4 different tools
It works. But it runs on your personal energy.
What's changing around you
- Your competitors using AI respond to prospects in 5 minutes. You respond in 48h. The client chooses whoever responds first.
- Platforms (Google, social media) favor businesses that publish regularly. You don't have time to publish.
- Clients expect faster and faster responses. "I'll call you back tomorrow" is no longer enough.
It's not a technology issue. It's a matter of response time and consistency.
The 3 concrete risks
1. Losing prospects due to slowness
A prospect contacts 3 craftspeople at the same time. Whoever responds first has a 50% chance of landing the contract. If you respond tomorrow evening, they've already signed with someone else.
2. Burning out on admin work
2 hours of admin each evening is 60 hours a month. 60 hours you're not spending with your family, resting, or developing your business. In the long term, it's the path to burnout.
3. Stagnating while others accelerate
AI is not a fad. It's a tool that cuts administrative time by 4. Entrepreneurs who adopt it now get ahead. Not because they're better — because they have more time.
What "doing nothing" really costs
Let's calculate over a year:
| Item | Cost of inaction |
|---|---|
| Prospects lost (3/month x 800 EUR) | ~28,800 EUR/year in lost revenue |
| Admin time (2h/day x 250 days) | 500 hours/year |
| Forgotten follow-ups (2 invoices/month) | ~4,800 EUR of cash flow blocked |
Against an investment of 15-25 EUR/month and 3h of setup.
The good news
You don't need to change everything at once. Most entrepreneurs start with a single use case:
- Email triage (most common)
- Draft quotes
- Invoice follow-ups
Just one of these three is enough to see the difference in a week.
In summary
Doing nothing isn't free. It costs time, prospects, and energy. The question isn't "is AI for me?" but "can I afford to keep going as I am?".
